Some Pre-Tour Thoughts

It’s incredibly easy to forget why I do this. It’s incredibly easy to get tired, worn down and exhausted at trying to pull every last thread of something that’s meaningful to you out of your brain so you can rearrange into something that makes sense in a melody. It’s incredibly easy to feel frustrated with the notes you miss, the way your hands falter when you’re nervous, the shows that are empty, the words that just don’t sound right, the line you say over and over in your head without being able to envision its counterpart, the miles you count up and up on your car like when you hit a certain number, you’ll be awarded with a purple heart and it will mean something.

But it’s even easier to remember why you do what you do because it only takes one thing: that howevermany people — even maybe just that one person — smiling ear to ear and mouthing the words to what you say as you’re saying it. That 5 minutes where neither of you are really alone.
